Description

Ranunculus flowers exhibit a nearly unreal, picture-perfect quality. Their blooms feature layers of silky petals in vibrant colors, creating a resemblance to roses. These ranunculus flowers are a must-have in flower shops and wedding bouquets. In regions with mild winters, you can plant buttercups in the autumn for an early April bloom, while in colder areas, spring planting ensures a delightful display in early summer.

Specifically, Ranunculus Amandine ‘Saumon,’ known as ‘Salmon’ in English, showcases apricot-orange to pastel-pink blooms. These abundant, extra-large flowers grace long, sturdy stems, making them an ideal choice for cut flower arrangements. Notably, they bloom 1 to 2 weeks after most other ranunculus varieties, and their robust nature allows them to withstand higher temperatures, extending the flowering period.

This order includes dried ranunculus corms. Corms resemble bulbs in that they store all the necessary nutrients and energy for the plant’s growth.

How To Grow:

Before planting, it’s important to prepare the growing beds. Add a generous dose of compost (2 to 3 in / 5 to 8 cm) and a balanced organic fertilizer and mix it thoroughly into the soil. Ranunculus are ideally (but not required) planted 9 in (23 cm) apart at a depth of 2 to 3 in (5 to 8 cm).

During cold stretches, when temperatures dip below freezing, cover the plants with a layer of frost cloth.

Harvesting Flowers:

Ranunculus have an outstanding vase life, often exceeding 10 days. Cut when buds are colored and squishy like a marshmallow, but not yet fully open, for a vase life of 10 to 12 days. If the blooms are open when cut, they’ll still last a week but will be more fragile to transport. Be sure to cut spent flowers down to the base to promote new blooms.
